Approval of the project by the VW Foundation

At the end of 2022, a project was launched at the Research Centre for Development Communication at the University of Leipzig, which will enable six persecuted scholars from Afghanistan to continue their studies and research in Germany. They combine perspectives from media, communication and political science, sociology and practical journalism.

The research-guiding thesis of the project is that the collapse in Afghanistan in the summer of 2021 was also a consequence of the country’s fragile media and public relations structure, the causes of which can be found in the existing paradigms in media development cooperation (MDC).

The communication project represents a visible, essential contribution to the discourse on the 20-year engagement in Afghanistan and will, in the best case, initiate a development towards the urgently needed paradigm shift in CET. The necessary public presentation and communication of the related topics, which goes beyond the scientific recording, will be achieved through the cooperation with two renowned filmmakers and two journalists from Afghanistan in film format.
