Transnationalization Begins at Home – Unseen Dynamics in Public Communication
29th of October 2025 – Library Albertina, University Leipzig
The focus this year is on how transnationalization, digitalization, and platformization are reshaping public communication. While these processes are often seen as global or distant phenomena, they are just as present in everyday life. Home, understood not only as a physical place but as a communicative hub, has become a key site where cross-border ties are formed, maintained, and negotiated.
As the third EC4SC event within the Media and Public Sphere of Afghanistan (MPS-AFG) program, the conference brings together researchers, practitioners, and students for a day of keynotes, panels, and discussion.
With panels and contributions on diasporic communication, multilingualism, influencer culture, and digital participation, the conference will explore how private practices connect to broader public debates.
About

This event aims to broaden the understanding of transnationalization and platformization in German communication studies. By focusing on the dynamics of everyday communication spaces, the conference encourages participants to rethink theoretical and methodological approaches and develop innovative perspectives for research into transnationalization and diaspora communication.
