This semester, we had the pleasure of welcoming Dr. Merga Yonas Bula to our seminar. Together with our students, he explored two timely and thought-provoking topics on digital diasporas and transnational communication:

• Digital Diasporas & Social Media
  How do platforms like TikTok, WhatsApp, and Instagram shape transnational communication, hybrid identities, and cultural continuity in diasporic communities?
• Language & Cultural Hybridity
  How do languages from the homeland and cultural blending—such as Jamaican Patois, Nigerian Pidgin, or Spanglish—reflect diasporic belonging and navigate between assimilation and cultural preservation?
